Description
Released in 2002 as the lead card of the Expedition Base Set, this Alakazam reverse holo card stands as card number 1 in the series. Designed by Hajime Kusajima, the reverse holo treatment offers a distinctive shimmering finish that contrasts with the standard foil holo rare versions found elsewhere in the set. As a Stage 2 Psychic-type Pokémon, it evolves from Kadabra and boasts 100 HP, making it a recognizable figure for collectors of the early 2000s Pokémon Trading Card Game era. Beyond its visual appeal, the card features the unique Psymimic ability, allowing players to copy an opponent's attack once per turn. This mechanic, combined with the Syncroblast attack that adjusts damage based on Energy count, adds strategic depth that appeals to both casual players and serious collectors. The Expedition Base Set remains a nostalgic favorite, and holding card number 1 provides a tangible connection to the beginning of this iconic expansion. Collecting this reverse holo variant offers a different aesthetic experience compared to the traditional holo rare cards. The reverse holo format highlights the artwork and text without the standard foil overlay, creating a sleek look that many enthusiasts seek for their sets. Whether you are building a complete collection of the Expedition Base Set or looking to add a high-numbered key card to your display, this piece represents a significant milestone in Pokémon TCG history. Its status as the first card in the set makes it a natural focal point for any organized binder or portfolio.

Card Text
Abilities, attacks, oracle text, and flavor text printed on the card.
Ability: Psymimic
Once during your turn, instead of Alakazam's normal attack, you may choose 1 of your opponent's Pokémon's attacks. Alakazam copies that attack including its Energy costs and anything else required in order to use that attack, such as discarding Energy cards. (No matter what type that Pokémon is, Alakazam's type is still Psychic.) This power can't be used if Alakazam is affected by a Special Condition.
Attack: Syncroblast (80)
If Alakazam and the Defending Pokémon don't have the same number of Energy cards attached to them, this attack's base damage is 20 instead of 80.
