Released in 2021 as part of the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Minigames expansion, the Roll for Initiative // Roll for Initiative (cont'd) card (catalog number 5) stands as a distinctive functional piece within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Unlike traditional spell or creature cards, this product functions as a double-faced token designed specifically for group play, bridging the gap between tabletop role-playing and the card game mechanics. The foil treatment adds a premium tactile quality to this product, making it a notable variant for collectors who appreciate the intersection of D&D lore and Magic gameplay. The card’s primary identity lies in its dual nature. The front face, Roll for Initiative, initiates a five-minute mini-game where players roll a d20 to determine turn order, modifying the result with specific Magic cards to achieve the highest initiative score. The reverse side, Roll for Initiative (cont'd), continues the narrative and mechanics of this encounter. This design reflects the crossover theme of the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set, which brought Dungeons & Dragons characters and monsters into the Magic universe. Collectors often seek this card not just for its foil finish, but for its role in the broader narrative of the Forgotten Realms crossover event. For enthusiasts of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, this token represents a unique collectible that highlights the game's versatility. It is particularly appealing to those who enjoy the strategic depth of the Minigames subset or those who collect memorabilia from the 2021 D&D crossover era. The card's common rarity means it was widely distributed, yet the foil version offers a distinct aesthetic that stands out in any collection. Whether you are building a set of Minigame components or collecting artifacts from the Forgotten Realms storyline, the Roll for Initiative foil card provides a tangible connection to this collaborative gaming experience. It serves as a reminder of Magic's ability to adapt and integrate beloved fantasy tropes directly into its gameplay loop. By focusing on catalog-level details, we ensure that collectors can identify and appreciate the specific attributes of each card, such as its set origin and functional role, without the noise of fluctuating inventory. This approach helps maintain the integrity of the collectible's identity, ensuring that the Roll for Initiative card is valued for its design and historical context within the Magic ecosystem.

2+ players | 1+ packs | 5 minutes | d20 OBJECTIVE: As you enter the room, the terrible dragon opens its eyes and lets out a roar. Everybody... roll for initiative! Roll a d20 and modify the result with some _Magic_ cards to get the highest initiative! GET READY: Open a booster and remove all cards without _Magic_ card backs. Use an additional booster for groups of five players or more. Shuffle, then deal the same number of cards to each player. If there are extra cards after dealing, set them aside. Each player then rolls a d20 to determine their *initiative*. In case of a tie, the tied players roll again. The player with the lowest starting initiative goes first. LET'S PLAY: On each player's turn, they play a card to modify a player's initiative (see reverse side for card effects). Cards with effects that will be counted at the end of the game should be placed in front of the target player. All other cards go into the discard pile.
