Description
Released in 2008 as part of the Masters Edition II set, the Dance of the Dead card occupies card number 83 in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This release features the Uncommon rarity designation and includes a distinctive foil treatment, distinguishing it from the standard non-foil versions within the set. Designed by Randy Gallegos, the card functions as an Enchantment — Aura with a mana cost of one black mana and one generic mana, resulting in a total mana value of two. In gameplay, this Aura begins by enchanting a creature card located in a graveyard, offering a unique interaction that bridges the gap between the graveyard and the battlefield. When the Aura enters play, it undergoes a significant functional change: it ceases to enchant graveyard cards and instead attaches to a creature put onto the battlefield by its own effect. This mechanic allows players to reclaim a creature card from their graveyard, placing it onto the battlefield tapped and under their control. The card provides a +1/+1 power boost to the enchanted creature but imposes a strategic drawback by preventing it from untapping during the controller's untap step. Additionally, the card includes a maintenance cost, allowing the controller to pay one black mana and one generic mana during their upkeep to untap the creature. The foil version of Dance of the Dead is particularly notable for its visual appeal and its strategic utility in various deck archetypes. As a staple in black-based strategies, it remains a relevant piece for enthusiasts looking to complete their Masters Edition II collection or enhance their competitive play. The card's unique graveyard-to-battlefield mechanic makes it a favorite among players who enjoy resource recursion and board control. Whether you are building a comprehensive library of Magic: The Gathering cards or hunting for specific foil treatments, this card represents a key component of the Masters Edition II experience. Its enduring popularity ensures it remains a sought-after item for both casual collectors and serious competitors.

Card Text

Enchant creature card in a graveyard When this Aura enters, if it's on the battlefield, it loses "enchant creature card in a graveyard" and gains "enchant creature put onto the battlefield with this Aura." Put enchanted creature card onto the battlefield tapped under your control and attach this Aura to it. When this Aura leaves the battlefield, that creature's controller sacrifices it. Enchanted creature gets +1/+1 and doesn't untap during its controller's untap step. At the beginning of the upkeep of enchanted creature's controller, that player may pay {1}{B}. If the player does, untap that creature.
