Description
The 2002 Expedition Base Set Blastoise card #37 stands as a recognizable piece of Pokémon Trading Card Game history. As a Stage 2 evolution of Wartortle, this Water-type Pokémon carries 100 HP, reflecting its status as a powerful presence in the game during the early 2000s. The card is illustrated by Kimiya Masago, whose artwork defines the visual identity of this release within the broader EX expansion. For collectors, this card represents a distinct era of design and gameplay mechanics that continue to influence the modern TCG landscape. In terms of gameplay, this card offers strategic depth through its unique abilities and attacks. The Jet Stream ability allows players to flip a coin to potentially discard an Energy card attached to Blastoise, adding a layer of risk and reward to turn management. Its primary attack, Water Cannon, deals damage based on the number of Energy cards attached to the Pokémon, excluding those used to pay for the attack itself. This mechanic encourages players to build their energy base carefully to maximize damage output. The card also includes a retreat cost of two Colorless Energy, balancing its offensive potential with mobility constraints. Collectors often seek out this card for its historical significance within the Expedition Base Set. It serves as a vital piece for those looking to complete the set or for fans who appreciate the classic design language of early 2000s Pokémon cards. Whether you are building a nostalgic collection or studying the evolution of Pokémon TCG strategies, the Expedition Base Set Blastoise offers a compelling glimpse into the game's past. Its enduring appeal lies in its combination of iconic character design and functional gameplay elements that defined a generation of players. By focusing on the identity and context of each card, we help collectors understand the value and history behind their favorite Pokémon TCG items. This Blastoise card remains a staple for anyone interested in the rich heritage of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
