Description
The Battering Ram card, designated as number 353 in the 1997 Fifth Edition set, represents a pivotal moment in Magic: The Gathering history. As a Common rarity artifact creature, this construct serves as a foundational piece for players and collectors alike. The card features a mana cost of two and possesses a power and toughness of 1/1, making it accessible yet strategically versatile. Its primary appeal lies in its banding mechanic, which allows for unique combat interactions. At the beginning of combat, the creature gains banding, enabling players to attack in bands and divide damage among blocking creatures. This utility is further enhanced by its ability to destroy any Wall that blocks it at the end of combat. Designed by Jeff A. Menges, the card captures the industrial aesthetic of its era, appealing to those who appreciate the classic design language of the late 1990s. Collectors often seek this card to complete their Fifth Edition collections or to utilize its specific rules interactions in vintage formats. The enduring relevance of banding makes the Battering Ram a staple for understanding the strategic depth of Magic: The Gathering trading card game cards from this period.

Card Text
Abilities, attacks, oracle text, and flavor text printed on the card.
At the beginning of combat on your turn, this creature gains banding until end of combat. (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding you control are being blocked by a creature, you divide that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's blocking.) Whenever this creature becomes blocked by a Wall, destroy that Wall at end of combat.
By the time Mishra was defeated, no mage was foolish enough to rely heavily on walls.
